Family Friendly Festival Fun
Hi there,
It’s Ruby Red hailing from Cordova. With all the fun I had at last years’ Copper River Salmon Jam, I can’t wait for July 12-13, 2019 to roll around because Salmon Jam is truly the ultimate family event! From Small Fry, to live music, to the AK Salmon Runs, the weekend is jam-packed with exciting activities for family festival-goers.
Every year, I don my running shoes and get out to enjoy a quick Saturday morning workout with all the festival families! The 1-mile Smolt Fun Run/Walk and the Humpy 5K are just the right length for a fish wearing tennis shoes, for youngsters full of energy, and for parents that want to take in the beautiful scenery Cordova has to offer.
After the AK Salmon runs everyone makes their way to the Ski Hill for a festive afternoon of eating, playing, and learning. Mom and dad can shop for local handcrafts in the Artisan Market while the kiddos explore all the kid-friendly booths at Small Fry, which is FREE for everyone! During Small Fry, festival partners provide educational activities like fish printing, relays, casting practice, salmon fillet demonstrations, and other exciting hands-on activities. Make sure to find me so we can have our picture taken together! Our littlest festival-goers, families, and the young at heart always enjoy face painting, hair-sparkling, crafting, and much more!
And we can’t forget about my favorite part — the music! Local and visiting musicians take the stage to wow audiences and get the festival moving and grooving, and the kids are no exception. The Salmon Jam music tent is open to all ages all weekend, so bring those little dancing shoes and get ready to boogie with me!
Salmon Jam is all about celebrating what sustains us, Salmon & Art… and, of course, family fun!
Salmon-jamma-lamma-ding-dong, I can’t wait to see you there!
